Because healing isn’t just about the past—it’s about what you allow yourself to feel now.

Summer often arrives with the invitation to do more: more travel, more plans, more productivity, more pressure to “make the most of it.”

But what if this summer, you gave yourself permission to do less—and feel more?

What if instead of striving… you softened?

For many of us, especially those who have spent years in survival mode, even joy can feel unfamiliar. We know how to push through, keep going, and check every box. But when things finally slow down, we may find ourselves uncomfortable with stillness… unsure how to rest, or how to truly enjoy it.

That’s not your fault.
That’s a nervous system that never learned what safe, soft, joyful living looks like.

And it’s okay to change that. In fact—your healing depends on it.

🌿 Why Joy is Part of the Healing Process

Contrary to what hustle culture or trauma conditioning may tell us, joy is not a frivolous extra.

Joy is a form of healing.

It teaches your body that it’s okay to exhale. That you don’t have to earn your rest. That you’re allowed to feel good now—even while you’re still healing.

Reclaiming joy helps your nervous system settle into safety.
It brings play back into your relationships.
It quiets shame and anxiety.
And perhaps most importantly—it reminds you of who you were before you learned to hide, hustle, or harden.

✨ Reclaiming You: The Summer Guide

This isn’t your typical bucket list.
It’s not about checking boxes—it’s about reconnecting with the pieces of you that may have gotten lost along the way.

Below is a gentle invitation to return to yourself this summer—one small act at a time.

🌞 Joyful Moments

  • Dance to your favorite childhood song

  • Watch the sunrise or sunset with no distractions

  • Try a playful activity from your youth (hula hoop, bubbles, sidewalk chalk)

  • Make a summer playlist that makes you feel free

  • Say yes to something spontaneous

🌿 Rest & Renewal

  • Take a nap in the middle of the day

  • Sit outside and do absolutely nothing for 10 minutes

  • Create a “do nothing” day (or half-day!)

  • Read a book just for fun

  • Take yourself on a slow morning walk without your phone

💛 Emotional Healing

  • Journal about one joyful childhood memory

  • Write a letter to your inner child and thank them for surviving

  • Practice saying “no” without explaining why

  • Start therapy—or revisit it with new intentions

  • Take 5 deep breaths every time you feel yourself rushing

🌺 Connection

  • Plan a screen-free evening with someone you love

  • Share one vulnerable feeling with someone safe

  • Call a friend you’ve been missing

  • Compliment a stranger

  • Ask for help with something small

"No matter how heavy life feels, healing is possible with the right support."

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.

The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counseling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.

Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counseling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.

Because each person has different issues and goals for counseling, it will be different depending on the individual. We tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to estimate how long it will take. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counseling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counseling in the first place.

We are so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
